Sophie (and Mom and Dad) went to the Zoo this weekend. Her first trip to the Zoo was mostly to get out the heat of the day (does it gag you folks that we are complaining about the 70 degree sunshine in February?) and get some exercise in the shady coolness of the Zoo. We also wanted to test out our new telephoto lens.
Lionel played around with the lens, and got some good shots that we were never able to get before because the animals tend to be so far away (at least through our wide angle lens):
I think what surprised me the most on this trip was this:
That is a wombat. I've lived in San Diego for 23 years now, and have visited our Zoo on average of 4 times a year, during mornings, days and nights. I have never seen this critter do anything but sleep until this weekend. If only we could have gotten video of this little guy walking--he was so adorable!
These and many more photos of the day are over at Flickr.
In house news, we are getting very little done. Don't laugh, but our (very dead) Christmas tree is still in the living room. We do get out at least once a day for a walk or a shopping excursion, but we're still spending most of our time in our cave bedroom. We're slowly finding a routine (like making time in the morning to blog while Sophie sleeps with Daddy) but we still never get as much done as we would like or plan. C'est la vie!
We'll will get caught up on some house projects and show off Sophie's room soon, as we'll have company in March. Nothing gets your house in ship-shape like having company come to stay!

Is that an Okapi? If so I think they are amazing looking animals. Their coats look like velvet.
As I sit here freezing my tush off in todays 10 degree weather (minus 9 with windchill) I can only dream of going to the zoo and seeing Okapis. BRRRRRRRRRRRR!
